How did you get into photography?
I have always enjoyed photography but I used to just dabble on vacation. When my children grew up and my husband became very sick with severe mental health issues, I turned to photography as my happy place to help my own mental health. I love being in nature and wildlife, I am very comfortable there - from bears in Canada to the Costa Rican Jungle at night. I quickly figured out that photography helps me refill my cup and stay healthy, mind, body, and soul.
Do you have any photographic qualifications or accolades?
I am self-taught. I recently got hired as the Costa Rican Guide for Women In Wildlife Photography.
What's the first photograph you remember seeing or shooting?
I grew up in Australia and we travelled quite a bit. My Dad always carried a camera and loved documenting everything.
What do you love about photography?
That I never stop learning. That I am pushed to be in nature in beautiful places. I’m so grateful that I get to interact with amazing creatures in these beautiful places and, hopefully, in some small way, help preserve them for our future generations.
What do you wish you'd learned about photography earlier?
How amazing the photography community is and to tap into that support.
Where is your favourite place for photography?
Costa Rica, but I’m excited to get back to Australia. I also love bears, so it’s hard for me to choose.
Do you have a favourite photographic technique?
I really enjoy macro at night with off-camera lighting.
Can you briefly outline your approach to image processing?
I try to get it very close in-camera. A this point I like to keep things simple and natural.
What's your favourite lens?
My Canon 100-400mm, but my Canon 100mm Macro is a close second.

Your favourite baked goods are?
Anything chocolate.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in Australia, in the very remote parts, riding my motorbike and getting chased by emus. I travelled to Canada when I was 17 years old as an exchange student and I joked that I had forgotten to go home. 33 years later, I am the proud mother of two beautiful young women and a bonus stepson. I recently became a grandmother, and I am quickly finding out that this is the best promotion ever. When I am not taking pictures, you will find me fly fishing, hiking and (who am I kidding) taking pictures. I'm living my best life, camera in hand.
