Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G Price, Specs Availability Confirmed
Sony has expanded its full-frame lens lineup with the launch of the Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G, a compact and lightweight ultra-wide-angle prime lens designed for photographers and videographers alike. With a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture, excellent optical performance and advanced autofocus capabilities, the lens is well-suited to a range of creative applications, including landscape, astrophotography, vlogging and filmmaking.
The lens features 15 elements arranged in 12 groups, including three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements, one Super ED element and three aspherical elements. This configuration helps to control chromatic aberrations and deliver high resolution across the frame. An 11-blade circular aperture ensures smooth, attractive bokeh.

Autofocus is driven by two XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors for fast, precise and near-silent focusing. The lens also supports focus breathing compensation on compatible Sony cameras, helping to maintain consistent framing when adjusting focus.
With a minimum focusing distance of just 15cm in autofocus mode and 13cm in manual focus, the Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G allows users to capture subjects up close while capturing context.
It also has a 67mm filter thread, an advantage over some ultra-wide lenses that feature bulbous front elements, making it easier to attach ND or polarising filters for creative control.

The lens includes an aperture ring with a de-click switch for video recording, an iris lock to prevent accidental changes between the control mode, and a focus hold button that can be customised. In addition, the focus ring features Sony’s linear response manual focus system.
Furthermore, weather sealing and a fluorine coating on the front element provide additional protection against dust, moisture and smudges.
Weighing just 304g and measuring 75mm in length with a 73.8mm diameter, the Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G is highly portable, making it an excellent option for travel and handheld shooting. It is also compatible with Sony’s stabilisation modes, including Active and Dynamic Active IS, enhancing its appeal for handheld video work and gimbal use.
