Sigma has announced the FP2, a compact full-frame mirrorless camera that builds on the original fp series with a 24.5MP partially stacked sensor, improved autofocus and a tilting touchscreen. It goes on sale on 11th November 2026, with a body-only price of £1899.
There’s also news of a lens in development, the Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG | Contemporary. It’s the first in a new branch of Sigma’s I series, with an emphasis on gentle rendering and smooth background blur. That could make it an interesting option for portraits and anyone who likes a softer look to their images.
Small size remains central to the FP2’s design. The body measures approximately 112.8 x 69.9 x 41.8mm and weighs 460g with a battery and SD card. And, as with the original FP, you can add accessories to build a setup that suits the way you like to work.
Inside, the 24.5MP partially stacked sensor has a faster readout to help reduce the distortion that can occur when photographing moving subjects with an electronic shutter. That’s good news because that was a considerable issue with the original FP. The FP2 can shoot at up to 20 frames per second, capturing up to 200 JPEGs or 180 DNG raw files in a burst.
The autofocus system combines phase and contrast detection, with subject recognition and Eye AF for people, dogs, cats and birds.

One welcome change is the tilting touchscreen. This 3.15-inch display tilts up through 90° and down through 45°, so you won’t have to get quite so low yourself when composing images close to the ground.
If you prefer to use a viewfinder, the optional EVF-21 connects via USB-C. It has a 5.76-million-dot OLED display and can also tilt upwards through 90°.

Sigma has included 13 colour modes, accessed using a dedicated Colour button. Alongside Standard and Monochrome, there are options such as Powder Blue, Warm Gold, Forest Green and Teal and Orange, giving you different starting points for the look of your images.
There’s also approximately 70GB of internal storage in addition to the UHS-II SD card slot. That could be useful if you fill a card while you’re out photographing.
Battery life is quoted at approximately 370 still images, which Sigma says is around 30% more than the original FP.
The FP2 uses an electronic shutter throughout. It’s also worth being aware that its electronic image stabilisation is for video only.

A switch on the top of the FP2 moves between dedicated Still and Cine modes, each with its own interface.
Video features include 6K OpenGate recording, which captures the full sensor area. This gives you more flexibility to produce different crops from the same footage, for example, when creating both horizontal and vertical videos.
There’s support for ProRes RAW and Leica’s L-Log, while 32-bit float audio recording is possible with the optional HU-21 hot shoe unit and compatible Panasonic audio accessories.

The Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG Contemporary is being developed with a particular look in mind. Sigma says it has deliberately controlled aberrations to create a gentle softness in the focused areas, with smooth transitions into background blur.
I’m interested to see how that translates into photographs. A lens’s appeal can be as much about the way it draws a subject and its surroundings as the amount of fine detail it records.
The new lens has a metal barrel with an aperture ring, distance scale and depth-of-field scale. Its rounded diaphragm has 14 blades, while a new Rotary Direct Drive autofocus actuator moves the whole optical assembly to focus. Turning the focus ring during autofocus temporarily switches to manual focus.
It weighs 375g, uses 52mm filters and has a closest focusing distance of 45cm. There’s also a dust- and splash-resistant construction and a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element.
The Sigma FP2 will be available from 11 November 2026, with the following UK suggested retail prices:
| Configuration | Price |
|---|---|
| Sigma FP2 body only | £1899 |
| Sigma FP2 with Electronic Viewfinder EVF-21 | £2399 |
| Sigma FP2 with 50mm F2 DG Contemporary lens | £2419 |
The camera and lens kit includes the existing 50mm F2 DG Contemporary.
The Sigma 50mm F1.4 CL DG Contemporary is currently a development announcement, with availability planned for spring 2027 in L-Mount and Sony E-mount.
The price and exact release date have yet to be announced, and specifications may change before the lens goes on sale.
