How did you get into photography?

Slowly; did a short course years ago and then really got into it when I took early retirement 10 years ago.

Do you have any photographic qualifications or accolades?

I have had images shortlisted four times in Amateur Photographer of the Year.

What's the first photograph you remember seeing or shooting?

In the Lake District in black and white with my first analogue camera, a Praktica.

What do you love about photography?

It works perfectly with my love of the outdoors and walking, which has been a lifelong passion of mine. I love being out on my own. It’s given me a creative outlet and I’m far more observant as a result. I ‘see’ more than before and I never have a plan on what I will photograph; I like to see what inspires me.

What do you wish you'd learned about photography earlier?

Some of the technical stuff, but mostly how much it’s given me.

Where is your favourite place for photography?

Definitely outdoors and in some of my favourite places, Cumbria, the West Country and the local nature reserve by the sea.

Do you have a favourite photographic technique?

ICM (Intentional Camera Movement).

Can you briefly outline your approach to image processing?

It’s minimal. I use Lightroom and Photoshop, and sometimes Nik Efex Pro.

What's your favourite lens?

My ND (neutral density) filters to enable longer exposures when I want them.

I’d like a Fujifilm Fujinon XF80mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro.

Is there a genre of photography that you love but that you haven't tried yet?

Studio portrait and street photography.

What's your proudest photographic moment?

Having images shortlisted for Amateur Photographer of the Year and being featured in ICM Photography magazine.

If you could have one superpower that could help you with photography, what would it be?

To be able to see in the dark.

Your favourite baked goods are?

Bread.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I began taking photos in the early 1980s after attending a short course at a local community centre. I didn't take photography seriously until the 2000s, and it has become a passion. I take my camera with me to most places I go, walking locally by the sea or at my local nature reserve on the East Kent coast or further afield, mainly in the UK. I have been a member of a local camera club and I joined SheClicks a few years ago. I love following the work of others in the Facebook Group and on Instagram. I’m often inspired by the images I see.
