Key Features

The DJI Mic Mini 2 records audio at 48kHz and 24-bit quality, which is a strong starting point for content creation, especially for video interviews. It features three voice tone presets called Regular, Rich and Bright, allowing you to tailor the sound depending on your environment or subject. There is also two-level noise cancellation designed to handle both quieter indoor settings and more challenging outdoor conditions.

Aspects such as the voice tone and noise reduction are set via the DKI Mimo smart phone app.

The system supports up to 400m transmission distance by line-of-sight with the standard receiver and 300m with the mobile version, giving flexibility when shooting at a distance. Battery life appears impressive too, with up to 11.5 hours from the transmitter and 10.5 hours from the receiver, extending to 48 hours with the charging case. A quick five-minute charge delivers around one hour of use, which means you can top it up during a coffee stop when you are out shooting all day.

Another standout feature is DJI OsmoAudio direct connection, which allows certain DJI devices to connect without a receiver, simplifying your setup further.

Build and Handling

The DJI Mic Mini 2 transmitter weighs around 11g, making it extremely lightweight and easy to wear without it feeling intrusive. The magnetic clip can be rotated, which helps position the microphone accurately, something that matters more than you might expect when trying to capture clean audio.

The charging case is designed to store the transmitter, receivers and USB-C connector together, which feels like a practical solution for photographers who like to keep their kit organised and ready to go. There is also a mobile-specific version of the case for those working primarily with smartphones.

The 2-transmitter kit comes with a USB-C adapter that slides neatly into the transmitter, enabling it to connect directly to a range of devices. There’s also a 3.5mm cable and port for wired connections, which adds flexibility depending on how you prefer to work. In addition, DJI offers a Mic Series Camera Adapter that fits into the multi-shoe of recent Sony cameras, removing the need for cables altogether.

A more unusual design feature is the interchangeable magnetic front covers, available in different colours, including standard black and white options and more creative designs. While this might seem cosmetic, it actually helps the mic blend into clothing, which is particularly useful when you don’t want it to stand out in portraits or video. That might pacify those who are disappointed that it’s not possible to connect a lavailer mic to the transmitters.

Performance

I’ve been using the DJI Mic Mini 2 for a few days now and, although I still want to test it in more varied shooting situations, my first impressions are very positive. I had heard good things about the original Mic Mini, and the Mic Mini 2 feels like it continues in the same direction, delivering reliable, fuss-free audio in a very compact form.

I used the 2-transmitter kit to record a video interview with Sophia Spurgin, connecting the transmitter via USB to a DJI Pocket 4. The setup was quick and straightforward, which is exactly what you want when you are working on location and trying to keep things simple.

The audio quality is very good, with clear, natural sound that doesn’t require much thought while you are recording. Helpfully, green lights on the receiver indicate when it has connected with a transmitter, and you can monitor the audio levels via the DJI Mimo app or on the screen of your recording device such as the DJI Pocket 4, which gives extra reassurance while shooting.

As omnidirectional microphones, the transmitters pick up a fair amount of ambient sound. That can be helpful as it adds context to your recordings, but it may prove a little challenging in noisier environments. Positioning the transmitters close to your subject (or audio source) helps their voice dominate the recording, pushing ambient noise further into the background, which is worth keeping in mind when setting up.

I kept the noise reduction switched off during my recording with Sophia, so I need to spend a bit more time experimenting with those settings to see how well they handle different situations.

At this stage, it feels like a dependable option for interviews and general content creation, especially if you are working solo or travelling light.

The two charging cases are nice and compact, but naturally, the case for the 1-receiver kit is smaller. The lights on the front show when the case is charging.

Early Verdict

The DJI Mic Mini 2 seems like a well-balanced option for creators who want dependable audio without complicating their workflow. It is small enough to carry everywhere, yet offers enough control over sound to adapt to different shooting situations.

From my perspective as a female photographer, the combination of lightweight design, long battery life and tidy storage is especially appealing. It feels like a tool designed for real-world use rather than just specs on paper. The added styling options are a nice touch too, particularly for those who care about how their kit looks on camera.

I can see this kit and the Pocket 4 accompanying me on many adventures, opening up a host of easy vlog recording opportunities.
