Swedish lighting company, Profoto has announced the Profoto D30, a mains-powered monolight developed to provide versatile, reliable lighting for professional photographers in the studio and on location (with power).
The D30’s key technical specifications include a flash power of 500Ws over a range of 11 f-stops, giving photographers refined control over the light output to suit a range of creative demands and situations.
Photographers can use one of three flash modes, Eco, Boost and Freeze. ECO mode enhances colour consistency and extends the equipment’s life; Boost mode provides additional power and Freeze mode minimises the flash duration to eliminate motion blur. These options make the Profoto D30 adaptable to a variety of situations, whether capturing high-speed motion or focusing on portraiture with precision lighting.
The D30’s bi-colour LED modelling light brings added flexibility. Its adjustable colour temperature and video-ready colour rendering make it ideal for both still and video applications. It can also serve as a continuous light source where a subtle, adjustable fill light is required, allowing photographers to match ambient light.
The D30 is said to have a sturdy yet compact design that is also lightweight, allowing for easy transportation and swift setup, even with large modifiers. The light also features Profoto’s AirX connectivity, enabling remote control via a camera-mounted remote or through Profoto’s mobile apps.
The Profoto D30 is compatible with Profoto’s 100mm light shapers, offering a broad range of creative options for photographers. With user-changeable flash tubes and a helpful handle, the D30 is designed to be robust and adaptable.
Profoto Product Manager, Göran Marén, said, ‘With the Profoto D30, we wanted to reshape professional studio lighting. Could a strobe with this speed, consistency, and robustness really be this compact, lightweight, and simple to set up? Yes, it can!’
The Profoto D30 is available now, priced at £1,895 in the UK or $1,995 in the US.
