If photographing wildlife in one of the world’s most iconic landscapes has been sitting on your wish list, this might be just what you’ve been waiting for. Join me, Angela Nicholson, and Ann Aveyard for an eight-day immersive wildlife photography workshop in Kenya, based at the renowned Governors’ Camp in the heart of the Masai Mara. Designed by women, for women, this SheClicks safari combines expert guidance, time in the field, and the support of a like-minded female community.

This is not about ticking species off a list or rattling off frames. It is about slowing down, observing behaviour, working with light and environment, and coming home with images that genuinely mean something to you.

A women-led safari with photography at its heart

This workshop brings together two different but perfectly complementary skill sets.

Angela brings years of experience as a photography journalist, kit reviewer and founder of SheClicks. She is there to help you feel confident with your camera, your settings and your choices, especially in fast-moving wildlife situations.

Ann is a highly experienced wildlife photographer and safari leader with deep knowledge of animal behaviour in the Masai Mara. Her calm, patient approach helps photographers anticipate moments rather than chase them.

Together, they will create a supportive, confidence-building space where questions are encouraged, mistakes are part of learning, and there is absolutely no pressure to shoot in one particular way.

Why November in the Masai Mara?

November is a wonderful time to photograph the Mara. There are fewer vehicles on the plains, which gives us the freedom to slow down and really work a scene. Resident predators are active, the light can be beautiful and varied, and dramatic skies add mood and atmosphere to your images.

Early mornings and late afternoons offer golden light, long shadows and misty starts, while the wide open landscapes invite you to think beyond close-ups and explore storytelling, composition and context.

Who is this workshop for?

This trip is suitable for female photographers of a wide range of experience levels.
Whether you are building confidence with wildlife photography or looking to deepen your creative connection and field craft, you will be supported throughout. The emphasis is on learning in real conditions, responding to what unfolds in front of you, and enjoying the process rather than chasing perfection.

Where you will stay: Governors’ Camp, Masai Mara

Set on the banks of the Mara River, Governors’ Camp is one of the most photographer-friendly camps in the reserve. Its location allows for early departures and flexible game drives, meaning we can be out shooting at first light and stay with a sighting as the sun drops below the horizon.

There are no fences, so wildlife regularly moves through the camp area, sometimes creating unexpected photographic moments right outside your tent.

We will have exclusive use safari vehicles for our group. This is a huge benefit for photographers, allowing us to move at our own pace, wait for behaviour and light, and avoid being rushed on by other guests.

Between game drives, the relaxed communal areas overlooking the river are ideal for image-discussions, reflection and a well-earned rest.
