Creative Cityscapes and Expressive Techniques in Birmingham – Weekend Workshop 13–14 June 2026

This is a women-only weekend workshop, a collaboration between SheClicks and Wilde Photography Academy.

See Birmingham differently on this creatively focused weekend workshop that blends expressive techniques with one of the UK’s most visually varied cities. From bold contemporary architecture to historic streets and calm canal paths, Birmingham offers a rich mix of shapes, textures and atmosphere that really lends itself to experimental image making.

Across two relaxed but immersive days, we will explore multiple exposure, black and white photography and more abstract ways of responding to the city. This workshop is about slowing down, looking more closely and giving yourself permission to experiment in a supportive, women-only space.

Birmingham

Birmingham’s mix of old and new makes it ideal for expressive city photography. The sweeping curves of the Selfridges building, the calm geometry of the Library of Birmingham, the energy of the markets, the character around New Street and Moor Street stations and the older buildings boats and reflections along the canal network all offer endless creative potential. It is a city that rewards curiosity and experimentation.

Weekend Itinerary

This itinerary is a guide and may adapt depending on weather, light and what is happening in the city.

Day 1 – Saturday 13th June

10:00 – Meet in Birmingham city centre

We will begin with a welcome and an introductory walk, exploring the architectural journey from Victoria Square to Centenary Square. You will learn how to make strong compositions and decide which multiple exposure approaches suit each scene.

Along the canals

We slow the pace as we move along the canals, focusing on how black and white photography can transform urban spaces. Reflections, lines and textures take centre stage as we look at simplifying scenes and working with tone.

Day 2 – Sunday 14th June

Digbeth

We will start the day in Digbeth’s creative quarter, working with bold street art, industrial details and strong graphic shapes. This is a great setting for both black and white work and layered multiple exposures.

The Selfridges building and markets

We’ll make our way towards the markets and the iconic Selfridges building. Its curves, patterns and tones are perfect for abstract interpretations and expressive layering.

We will finish the weekend at Moor Street Station, where warm colours, vintage details and strong lines provide a fitting final location.

The workshop will wrap up at around 4 pm.

If you are looking to stretch your creativity, experiment with new techniques and enjoy photographing a city in a fresh way alongside other women photographers, this weekend is designed for you.
