Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary in Canon RF Mount Price, Availability confirmed

Earlier this year, Sigma announced that its first APS-C format mirrorless zoom lens, the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, would be made with the Canon RF Mount. Now the company has confirmed that the Canon RF mount Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary will go on sale on 11th July 2024 at a price of £479.

The 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary lens has a full-frame equivalent zoom range of 28.8mm to 80mm and a constant F2.8 aperture throughout. This means that the exposure doesn't change when you zoom from one focal length to another, and there's good scope to isolate a subject by blurring the background.

Sigma designed the lens with portability in mind. In fact, the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary is the smallest and lightest lens in its class, with a diameter of 69.2mm, a length of 74.5mm, and a weight of just 300g. This makes it a good match for APS-C mirrorless cameras, such as the Canon R7m and especially suitable for travel or street photography.

The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary has a minimum focusing distance of 12.1cm and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.8, making it useful for close-up photography and general shooting.

Sigma has developed a specific control algorithm for the Canon RF Mount, optimising the autofocus (AF) drive and communication speed. This ensures high-speed autofocus, support for Servo AF, and in-camera aberration correction with compatible cameras.

In addition, the mount has a rubber seal for weatherproofing.

Sigma provides a Mount Conversion Service for anyone interested in converting their existing Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary lens to the Canon RF mount.

The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary lens is supplied with a petal-style lens hood, plus front and rear caps.
