OM System OM-3 Price, Specs Availability Announced

The OM System OM-3 in a woman's hand

The OM System OM-3 has officially been unveiled, blending vintage-inspired design with cutting-edge technology. With an all-metal body, weather sealing and innovative controls aimed at enhancing creativity, the OM-3 looks set to appeal to photographers who want a traditional shooting experience without sacrificing modern performance.

At first glance, the OM-3 could easily be mistaken for a vintage film camera. However, beneath its all-metal, IP53-rated weather-sealed shell lies an advanced mirrorless system built for today’s photographers. It weighs just 413g (body only) and is 25% smaller in volume than the OM-1 Mark II, making it an enticing option for travel and outdoor photography.

Inside, the OM-3 features the same 20.4MP stacked BSI Live MOS sensor and TruePic X dual-core processor as the OM-1 Mark II. This pairing delivers 1,053 cross-type phase-detection AF points and AI-powered subject detection, recognising everything from humans and animals to motorsports and trains.

New Controls

One of the OM-3’s standout features is its new control arrangement, designed to encourage photographers to get creative in-camera rather than relying on post-processing. A dedicated colour profile dial gives easy access to four profile modes - Mono, Colour, Art, and CRT - allowing users to apply customisable presets. The dial also gives a route to the usual Picture Modes.

There’s also a new Computational Photography (CP) button, giving quick access to features like High Res Shot Mode, ND filters, Graduated ND, HDR and Multiple Exposure modes. This streamlined approach makes it easier to apply effects without diving into menus.

The OM-3 continues OM System’s tradition of offering High-Resolution Shot modes, allowing photographers to capture 80MP images with a tripod or 50MP handheld shots. The camera’s 5-axis in-body stabilisation also provides up to 7.5 stops of shutter speed compensation with Sync IS lenses or 6.5 stops with non-Sync IS lenses, helping to keep images sharp in low light.

For action shooters, the OM-3 delivers silent sequential shooting at up to 120fps (SH1 mode) or 50fps (SH2 mode), making it a powerful tool for capturing fast-moving subjects.

Video Capabilities

Naturally, the OM-3 isn’t just for stills, it’s also equipped for shooting video and has Slow & Quick Motion settings, allowing frame rates from 1fps to 120fps. It introduces two new OM Cinema modes, applying unique in-camera colour grading styles to video footage.
