Canon EOS R50 V: A Video-First Take on a Popular Camera
The Canon EOS R50 V is based on the original R50 mirrorless camera, but with a clear focus on video. It has the same 24.2MP APS-C sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, but Canon has tweaked the body design and controls to better suit content creators.
There’s a new mode dial dedicated to video, a second record button on the front of the camera (ideal for vlogging at arm’s length), and tripod mounting threads on both the base and side – perfect for filming in horizontal or vertical orientation. It’s also Canon’s first EOS camera to support the Live Switcher Mobile App, which allows multi-camera livestreaming directly from a phone.
Although lacking a viewfinder, the Canon R50 V features a vari-angle touchscreen that’s ideal for self-shooting, plus mic and headphone ports, a USB-C socket for continuous power and a multifunction accessory shoe.
Canon’s autofocus system includes eye and face tracking for people, animals (including horses), and vehicles – and a registered people priority mode means you can rank up to 10 individuals to stay in focus during group shots or interviews.
Video options include oversampled 4K 30p (from 6K), cropped 4K 60p, Full HD at 120p, and support for Canon Log 3 and 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, offering a great deal of flexibility for those who want to grade their footage in post.
The result is a camera that feels more tailored to video creators than its predecessor. Whether you're livestreaming, shooting video content or capturing stills on the go, the EOS R50 V is built to make the process as smooth as possible.

Canon RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ: Compact Power Zoom
The new Canon RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ is Canon’s first RF-mount lens with internal power zoom – a feature that gives you smooth zoom transitions without physically extending the lens barrel. That makes it especially useful for video, keeping things stable on gimbals and tripods, and offering a more professional look in your footage.
With an equivalent focal length of 22-48mm on a full-frame camera, it’s great for everything from wide-angle vlogging and landscapes to portraits. The lens is compact and lightweight at just 181g, and includes optical image stabilisation (up to 5 stops), fast and quiet STM autofocus, and a combined control/focus ring for quick adjustments without fiddling with switches.
You can zoom using the lens jog-ring, the camera’s rocker control (when paired with the R50 V), a smartphone app, or a Bluetooth remote and there's a minimum focusing distance of just 15cm, making it useful for product demos or close-up details.
