The primary goal of 100 for the Ocean is to support crucial ocean conservation work and amplify the voices of those dedicated to protecting marine environments. All the net proceeds will benefit three underfunded and often overlooked ocean-focused non-profit organisations. These organisations will also receive media and production support from SeaLegacy, known for its expertise in creating impactful conservation stories that reach a global audience.
Beneficiaries for 2024
The following three organisations were chosen based on the impact and integrity of their work, the potential for greater impact through the campaign and the ability to tell their stories effectively through images. Geographic location and the potential for storytelling were also key considerations.
1. Coral Gardeners
Coral Gardeners takes the lead in coral restoration in a time when we are facing significant threats to coral reefs worldwide. Their efforts align with SeaLegacy’s mission to restore damaged habitats, focusing on areas like French Polynesia and the Pacific.
2. Young Ocean Explorers
Based in New Zealand, Young Ocean Explorers inspires young people to protect marine environments. Their goal is to establish Marine Protected Areas, contributing to SeaLegacy’s broader aim of protecting 30% of the ocean by 2030.
3. Oceans Initiative
Operating in the Pacific Northwest, Oceans Initiative conducts vital research on the various threats facing the Salish Sea, such as logging, mining, and industrial fishing. Their work highlights the challenges and seeks solutions to protect endangered species and ecosystems, like the Southern Resident Killer whales and kelp forests.
Sustainable Printing Practices
The prints for 100 for the Ocean are produced and shipped from Canada in collaboration with Tricera Print, which prioritises environmental sustainability. To minimise their ecological footprint, they use 100% cotton-based fine art papers and aqueous pigmented inks, along with biodegradable wrapping and recycled shipping materials.
