How did you get into photography?

I have always been interested in photography, but with the birth of my first granddaughter, I decided to buy a camera. She is now 18 years old and I have 4 more granddaughters.

Do you have any photographic qualifications or accolades?

I am self-taught and have no qualifications or accolades.

What's the first photograph you remember seeing or shooting?

Years ago, I took a picture on a point-and-shoot film camera, which I hoped had worked, but it turned out to be really bad. It was taken through some trees.

What do you love about photography?

I love that no one else sees things the way I do. Even if you are standing next to another person, the images are different and so personal.

What do you wish you'd learned about photography earlier?

I really wish that I had started to learn photography a lot younger, but I am enjoying my journey now.

Where is your favourite place for photography?

I love going into Liverpool, or any city, they are all so different. I’m not keen on studio photography, I have given it a go but it’s not my thing at all. I’m more of a candid photographer. I do, of course,, shoot some pictures at home, but only when I need to - it’s not my go-to thing.

Do you have a favourite photographic technique?

Candid, macro and double exposure.

Can you briefly outline your approach to image processing?

I shot in raw and use my iPad Pro to edit my pictures. I am not a very technical person and don’t do very much editing at all. I tend not to spend very long at all on each picture. Some pictures work in colour, but for street photography, I mainly use black and white as I find using colour distracting and it’s hard to see the subject you are focusing on.

What's your favourite lens?

For my street work, my Fujifilm XF 35mm F/2 R WR.

Do you have a favourite accessory?

My Lensball and Lensbaby Omni Creative Filter System.

Have you found the perfect camera bag yet?

I like Peak Design bags. I have a small one for street photography and an Everyday Backpack for macro photography days.

Which photographers have influenced or inspired you, and how or why?

Vivian Maier was a person who you might just walk past in the street, but she had a wonderful way of telling a story using her camera. Her use of reflections is inspiring for me and has had a big influence on my images.

Please recommend 2 or 3 female photographers to follow on Instagram.

Paula Wilks @saxtraction, Janina Wilde @janina_wilde1 and Linda Wride @lindawride.

Is there a camera, lens or accessory that you don't have yet but you'd like to buy at some point?

The Lensbaby Sweet 22.

Is there a photography genre you love but haven't tried yet?

Wildlife.

What's your proudest photographic moment?

Years ago, I did an exhibition, and seeing how people reacted to my work was a very proud moment.

If you could have one superpower that could help you with photography, what would it be?

To be recognised as a photographer.

Your favourite baked goods are?

Cakes!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I am dyslexic and see the world better with pictures than words. I also lack confidence, but hiding behind the camera helps me to watch and capture special moments that other people may not see.

I am lucky enough to own a campervan, so I can travel a lot. I am also retired and able to go away when I want.
