Peak Design Small Tech Pouch Review

Summary Verdict

Overall, the Peak Design Small Tech Pouch offers a practical and durable solution for organising tech accessories during travel. Its compact size, high-quality materials, and thoughtful design make it an excellent addition to any traveller's kit.

What is the Peak Design Small Tech Pouch?

The Peak Design Small Tech Pouch is a compact version of the company's original Tech Pouch, designed for organising cables, adapters, batteries, chargers, and SSDs during travel. With a capacity of 1 litre, the Small Tech Pouch is half the size of the original Tech Pouch, making it more suitable for short trips, particularly when only carrying hand luggage.

At launch on 20th June 2024, the Peak Design Small Tech pouch was available in four colours: black, charcoal (grey), midnight (blue) and sage (green). However, on 20th August 2024, a fifth colour was added; coyote (sand/gold/brown).

Key Features

The Small Tech Pouch has many of the high-quality features of its predecessor. Consequently, the Black, Charcoal, Midnight and Sage versions have a 100% recycled weatherproof 400D nylon canvas shell and a durable zip. Meanwhile, the Coyote colour pouch has a new exterior shell material, the X-PAC® VX-21 Ocean Edition. This fabric is made 100% recycled fishing nets and was originally developed as a high-performance sailcloth

Conveniently, the pouch has a flat base, allowing it to stand upright, and it opens like a clamshell for easy access to the contents.

Inside the Small Travel Pouch, you'll find concertina-style organiser pockets and a zip-closed section with three memory card pockets. Each of those small pockets can hold around a half-dozen SD cards or four CFexpress cards. The main compartment also has three stretchy pockets that are useful for holding camera batteries.

On the outside, the Small Tech Pouch features a flap-style carry handle and two loops for connecting a Peak Design Cord Hook Carry Strap (sold separately). Of course, you could also use a Peak Design Slide Lite strap instead.

A small flap-like handle makes the Peak Design Small Tech Pouch easy to grab. Those loops can also be used to attach an optional strap.

Build and Handling

The build quality of the Small Travel Pouch is the same as the original’s, impressive. The recycled nylon canvas feels robust and weather-resistant, while the zip is rugged and water-resistant.

The clamshell opening design is practical, providing a clear view and easy access to all compartments. Meanwhile, the concertina-style pockets keep items organised and secure. In addition, the external carry handle is useful when you're reaching for the pouch and Cord Hooks enhance its portability.

It’s surprising how much stuff you can fit into the Small Tech Pouch.

Performance

After using the original Peak Design Tech Pouch for years, I was concerned that the small version might be too small. However, I'm happy to report that the Peak Design Small Tech Pouch is every bit as useful and highly functional.

It comfortably holds a variety of tech accessories, including the cables, card reader, SSD and batteries I need for a weekend away with my camera. The only tricky thing to fit was a USB-power adapter, but with a little rejigging, I was able to squeeze that in as well. This makes it ideal for business or photography trips, or just a weekend getaways.

The Peak design Small tech Pouch has three pockets that are useful for storing camera batteries.

The organiser pockets ensure that everything has its place, without being too restrictive and the zip-closed section for memory cards or other small items is handy. The compact size makes it convenient for hand luggage without compromising on the space needed for other essential items.

Verdict

I've used the original Peak Design Tech Pouch since it first came out, and while it's great in many ways, it's often larger than I need. The Peak Design Small Tech Pouch is the perfect alternative, and I'm likely to use it more often than the original.

In summary, the Peak Design Small Tech Pouch is a well-thought-out case for anyone needing to keep their tech essentials organised on short trips. Its robust construction, practical design, and convenient size make it a reliable choice for both business and leisure travel.
