Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year Shortlist announced

The Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2024 Shortlist has been announced with an impressive range of over 700 superb images for our delectation.

Once again, there are photographs that span the entirety of our engagement with food - from its cultivation and harvest through to its preparation, enjoyment, and the communal pleasure it brings.

This is the 13th year of the contest and thousands of submissions were made from over 65 countries.

The shortlist of over 700 images across the 28 categories was decided by a distinguished panel of judges led by the esteemed food photographer David Loftus.

For the third year, I was delighted to join the judging panel which includes notable figures such as Clare Reichenbach, CEO of the James Beard Foundation; Tom Athron, CEO of Fortnum & Mason; Asma Khan, noted for her appearance on Chef’s Table, her cookbooks, and her founding of Darjeeling Express; Fiona Shields, Picture Editor at The Guardian; and Rein Skullerud, Senior Photographer & Photo Editor at the World Food Programme.

I can attest to the challenge of making the selection, however, it's also a tremendous pleasure. I’m particularly looking forward to discovering the winner of the Claire Aho Award for Women Photographers.

Claire Aho (1925-2015) was the daughter of Finnish film director Heikki Aho and Dinah Selkina, a Lithuanian-born dancer. She was given her first camera at the age of 10. After initially working for her family’s company, she established her own photographic studio in Helsinki in the early 1950s when few women worked in the business. Her images are known for their vibrancy and humour.

The winners of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2024 will be announced at the Awards Evening on Tuesday, 4 June 2024, in London, with the Overall Winner scooping a prize of £5,000.

There will also be an exhibition showcasing all the Finalist images at The Mall Galleries in London. This free-to-enter exhibition will be open to the public and is part of the first ‘Plate! St James's’, a festival that celebrates food, drink, and photography from 5th to 23rd June.
