Hasselblad XCD 2,5/25V Price, Specs, Availability Announced
Hasselblad has announced the XCD 2,5/25V, price $3,699 / €4,199, a wide-angle (20mm equivalent) lens built with night photography in mind.
The Hasselblad XCD 2,5/25V is the widest lens in the company's XCD Versatile (V) series of medium-format lenses. Its 25mm focal length is equivalent to 20mm in full-frame terms, and its maximum aperture is f/2.5. The combination of the wide angle of view and large aperture makes the XCD 2,5/25V a good choice for photographing cities at night, starry skies, or indoor scenes.
Designed to match the requirements of Hasselblad's 100-megapixel sensors, the XCD 2,5/25V is constructed from thirteen elements arranged in ten groups, with four aspherical elements and three ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. Hasselblad also claims the lens is sharp across the frame while chromatic aberrations are minimised.
The lens has a large-diameter leaf shutter that enables shutter speeds of up to 1/4000 sec with flash synchronisation at every speed. That’s good news for anyone who wants to photograph with flash in bright conditions.
The XCD 2,5/25V has a linear stepping motor and a comparatively small and light focusing group, which enables fast focusing when the lens is mounted on a Hasselblad X or V system camera with phase detection autofocusing (PDAF).
In addition, the closest focusing distance is 25cm, which could open up some creative opportunities for detail shots with context in the background.
As part of the Hasselblad XCD V lens series, the XCD 2,5/25V has a push-pull type focus ring, which allows you to swap quickly between manual focus and autofocus. Helpfully, there are focus distance and depth of field scale marks visible to guide focusing in manual focus mode.
There's also a customisable control ring that can be used to adjust aspects such as aperture, shutter speed, ISO or exposure compensation.
