Canon EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II price, availability, specs announced
At last, the full details of the Canon EOS R1 and Canon EOS R5 Mark II have been announced. Both cameras feature Canon's new Accelerated Capture imaging platform, which integrates a new Digic Accelerator processor, alongside the well-known Digic X image processor and newly developed high-speed image sensors. These advancements are enhanced by Deep Learning technologies, boosting performance in autofocus, continuous shooting, and image quality. The Canon R1 and Canon R5 II both feature new full-frame backside-illuminated (BSI), stacked CMOS sensors.
Canon EOS R1: Canon's flagship camera
The 24.2MP Canon R1 is the first EOS-1 series camera in the EOS R range. As such, it's engineered for elite sports photographers and news professionals. It features a new Cross Type AF system designed for challenging conditions, such as shooting through a tennis net or tracking smaller subjects. This system uses a new Dual Pixel CMOS AF sensor arrangement called Dual Pixel Intelligent AF.

The Canon R5 Mark II builds on the legacy of the Canon EOPS 5D series and the EOS R5, targeting creative storytellers and hybrid users. It features a back-illuminated, stacked sensor design with a 45MP resolution. This model offers advanced autofocus tracking and an electronic shutter capable of 30fps with low rolling shutter. The pre-continuous shooting mode captures 15 frames before the shutter is pressed, and advanced image upscaling can achieve up to 180 megapixels.

Both cameras feature the latest version of Dual Pixel Intelligent AF, called Dual Pixel Intelligent AF which can track subjects by identifying faces and upper bodies, avoiding obstacles, and prioritising registered faces. The new 'Action Priority' mode helps capture dynamic sports moments by identifying common action poses in sports basketball, soccer or volleyball.
The EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II are designed to offer superior image quality, with Deep Learning in-camera image upscaling and noise reduction, enhancing resolution or reducing noise in JPEG or HEIF formats. Both models provide up to 8.5 stops of image stabilisation and can record high-resolution stills and Full HD video simultaneously.
